Tonight’s LOST Recap – Everybody Loves Hugo

by Bay on April 13, 2010

If you are not caught up on Lost, cease and desist from reading this post or you will be spoiled!

I wasn’t expecting to be a fan of a Hurley back-story (or ALT, ATL, sideways…what are we calling this?), but it was better than I thought it would be due to the addition of Libby!

Back when I first started blogging my Lost thoughts I had a few criteria for making an awesome episode (Richard Alpert, dead Losties showing up, etc.)  This episode had a lot of those “old school Lost” elements didn’t it?  Whispers and all.  Here’s my thoughts:

Hurley & Libby must have had quite the love connection if Hurley is still talking to her grave after all these years!  Really, he’s been on the island, off, and back again and he’s still pining for her?  Whatever, this scene quickly leads to MICHAEL, who I’ve been missing for quite some time.  I really think that his character got the shaft (and/or the actor for that matter) so it was good to see him.

But can he be trusted?  Hurley just seems to be running blind, right into the arms of the Smoke Monster.  Poor Ilana is blown to smithereens trying to keep the candidates safe and Hurley actually knows more to trample all over it?  I think Hurley is a dummy and Jack’s going to have step up and “fix” things.

The Whispers.  Really?  Could that really be an “answer”?  I don’t think Hurley’s little, “wait I know what they are, they’re trapped deadies” made any sense.  Whenever we heard the whispers before it was right before the “others” appear.

Big question:  Who is the little smirking boy in the jungle?  He’s a different boy than last time (last time he looked like a little Jacob, this boy looked more like a little Man-In-Black).  I read on the message boards someone’s theory that perhaps it is a new Jacob “growing up” and is a reminder to Smocke that his time is running out until Jacob catches up with him?  Now that doesn’t quite make sense, but I like the idea of the boy’s quick aging being some type of warning to Smocke.  He is obviously visibly annoyed with the presence of the kid.

I wonder why Desmond was cool as a cucumber when it was so obvious that Smocke was going to push him into the well.  Desmond clearly knows so much more right now than anyone else, I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

ALT Desmond’s gone all Jacob on us, tracking 815′ers down and trying to help them find their destiny.  But how awesome was it to see him RUN LOCKE OVER??  I didn’t see that happening, but after seeing what Locke does to Desmond it’s no wonder ;)   My husband caught this one:  When Desmond is sitting in his car stalking out Hurley & Libby, the license plate on his car is 4PCI264.  When Des runs over Locke in the school parking lot, the license plate is 2FAN321.  It could be nothing, but really, the prominence of the license plates in both scenes was very, very obvious.  I don’t think stuff like this passes by the producers of the show.

My favorite part is Smocke barely caring about the return of Frank, Sun, and also Hugo, but boy, is his eye laser-focused on Jack.  “Hello Jack”…he doesn’t even mention the others!  I love the Jack/Locke rivalry, so it’s good to see that it will probably still come down to these two splitting sides.  Oh wait, another favorite part, the previews for next week playing to that creepy Gene Wilder-Willy Wonka tripped out music.  YES LOST, there really is no earthly way of knowing which direction this is going!!

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!  If you are blogging about Lost then leave your link as well so I can come and check out your post :)

I LOVED the music for next week’s episode! I thought that was fantastic!!

I can’t wait to find out who the little boy is. I like that it might be Jacob growing up to take on Locke. But for some reason, I thought Locke was the only one that could see him before? He doesn’t ever try to go after Locke, he just stares at him creepily (can that be used as a scrabble word) from the woods!

I think referencing that the whispers used to come before the “others” appear…I think that there is just so much going on in this show that not everything is going to tie together. It will be interesting when it’s all over to watch everything from beginning to end and go “hey! what ever happened with this?”

I’m not sure who the boy is, but I have noticed that he appears to be growing up. Maybe he’s Aaron? Sawyer also was able to see him in the woods in an earlier scene this season. And, FLocke knows clearly who he is.

Desmond definitely knows what’s going on in both timelines it seems and so he’s not afraid of MIB.

I too was surprised by the “whispers” explanation. I read somewhere that the whispers are the people (the ones who can’t move on) trying to warn our Losties of impending danger (the others, the smoke monster, etc.). That makes more sense I think.

I liked the trippy music too. It was so disturbing and intriguing. I have no real insights. I thought I had one (Desmond didn’t die in well) but then read that he was shown in preview sitting at the bottom. So.
And you’re right, they’re all about details in this show.
After it’s all over, it will be a Where’s Waldo event, going back and watching all of the episodes, looking for Easter Eggs.

I think the kid is the island protective “spirit”, waiting to see which of the candidates will take over Jacob’s role. As the candidates move closer to the final choice, the kid gets older. It seems only Smokie, the candidates and Desmond can see him?

Ok, finally got to watch! I love ALT Hurley. LOVE that he found Libby (she found him). Libby. Michael. Ahhhhhhhh. I was SO hoping that they would bring these two back. Hurley and Libby are so cute together. But, what is the point of all the remembering? So, everyone starts remembering everything…. and then what are they going to do? Go back to the island??

When Michael said that he was stuck on the island, my first thought was purgatory. Anyone else?

Also, Dr. Chang was the presenter of the award in the beginning… I also love Hurley’s mom. She is so funny!

I thought this was a pretty eventful episode. I was not expecting Ilana to bite it so suddenly like that!

I was not happy that Miles went with Richard and Ben. Seems that he would be more loyal to Hurley, considering.

Poor real life Locke. He can never catch a break.

Oh, and doesn’t Des look incredibly handsome all cleaned up and in a suit (with sexy sunglasses)? Sigh.
