Huggies Jeans Diaper Launch Event in NYC!

Last week Rayna & I went on a whirlwind escape to New York City for the launch of the new Huggies Jeans Diaper!  Huggies was having a baby fashion show right in Union Square, with fashionista Rebecca Romijn as the celebrity spokesmom & Huggies brought along a few bloggers and their little ones to join in the fun.  I was so excited to be in this select group that included the awesome bloggers behind Dada Rocks, Dial M for Minky, Life Without Pink and My Mom Shops.

First, let me just ask, have you seen the new Huggies Jeans diapers?  I have to admit that I thought they were hilarious when I first saw them, but didn’t see them as much more than a novelty item.  Now that I’ve seen them, they are not only a funny conversation piece, but they really do look adorable.  I’ve already had one day (and the summer hasn’t started yet) where it was so hot that Rayna was just wearing a diaper while playing outside with water & sand.  With the jeans diaper on, she looked so sweet.  And what about family summer photo ops?  I love it!

Ok, so back to the event.  Huggies sent a car to pick us up (which was awesome, because I was very nervous about bringing Rayna into the city for the first time…I am horrible about driving places “out of my zone” and bringing a toddler & assorted paraphernalia on the train alone seemed like a huge task).  On our way into the city, Rayna was in love.  Well, from the moment we reached the Newark airport on the turnpike:  “AIRPLANES!!! AIRPLANES!! AIRPLANES!!”  is really when the fun began.  Going through the tunnel was HUGE for her, seeing all the “bicycles!!” “motorcycles!!” and “umbrellas!!” (from street vendors) was sensory overload.

Then we pulled into our lovely hotel, the W in Union Square, where things are cool, quiet and business-like.  I think they were a little taken by storm with all the Huggies babies coming and going :)   We hooked up with Tina from Life Without Pink and had dinner in the city, before heading back to our room to rest up for the busy day ahead.  Or should I say, not rest?  All of the excitement was too much for Rayna, and me being the rookie mom that I am,  had to learn the hotel sleeping trick the hard way.  (and other first time moms take notice: your little one isn’t going to take to the idea of her/him sleeping, while you are up and doing things.  Instead, you must feign sleeping together, until the kid is really out, and then party on)  Since it was past 10 PM when R finally fell asleep, I was just ready for bed as well.

In the morning (after many false starts waking up!) it was time to get up and have breakfast with the other bloggers.  This was a fun meet and greet for us to get acquainted not only with each other, but with the lovely people from Huggies as well.   I even found a Lost fan in the Huggies camp, and I regaled her with my finale theories (all of which were wrong, by the way).  Then came a big part of our breakfast meet and greet: we got to meet Rebecca Romijn!  It was kind of a quick photo-op moment, as Rebecca was getting ready to take off to the fashion show, but still it was fun.  She is just as lovely in person (and very tall!) and Jerry O’Connell was with her and he was so sweet and friendly, too.  He kept looking at Rayna and saying “aw!” because she was being deathly shy and didn’t appreciate him touching her curls. ;)

Rayna, me & Rebecca Romijn (one of my notoriously crummy-quality photos)

Tina took this much better quality photo, but alas I have a double chin!

After breakfast and the meet and greet, we headed out of the hotel and to Union Square, where the fashion show was taking place.  The bloggers’ kids could also participate in the “What’s Your Denim Style?” fashion show, but this is where things took a bad turn for us:  Rayna would NOT be without pants.  Would. Not.  Of course the whole show was to feature the jean diaper as part of a rocker look, or a beach look, etc.  So my tantrum-ing toddler and I had to take a little walk to cool down.  Because my kid was pretty much laying on the ground losing her mind, I missed a lot of the fashion show, but it really was adorable, and I heard Rebecca was a funny emcee.

One of the few pics I got of Rebecca during the fashion show

Huggies gave us bloggers a lovely gift bag that included a Flip camera (which I was going crazy for, I’ve always wanted one!!) but I could not take any video of the event since I was in full-time damage control mode.  The joy of children, right?  While I attempted to watch from the sidelines, a young  fashionista guy was grilling me about the event, about Rebecca, about my blog, etc.  I was giving him the scoop and told him that Rayna was a “fashion show reject”.  He was like ‘uh-uh honey, she rejected the fashion show and that is so much cooler!’  So yeah, I’ll stick with that.  Rayna has denim style, but it’s not on display for everyone.  ;)

Me & Tina with our little ones

As we headed back to the hotel, the Huggies event was wrapping up, while Rebecca Romijn stayed behind doing some interviews and press things.  We got to see a sneak peek of the new Huggies commercial for the jeans diaper.  It is so funny and I love that they are tongue-in-cheek about the diaper being a fashion statement.  The tagline is “the coolest you’ll look pooping your pants” and the tv commercial opens up with “My diaper is full.  Full of chic.” :P

After we had lunch, we  said our goodbyes to our new friends and we were just as soon off on our way back home to NJ.  So it really was a whirlwind tour, but a really fun time for both me and Rayna!

Disclosure:  This trip (including transportation, lodging and goodies) was sponsored by Huggies.  I was not paid or obligated to write this post.  All opinions are mine.
