Menu Plan Monday

Yeah, I’m back on the bandwagon.  After all of the holiday spending we are trying out the envelope system of budgeting.  It’s going to be a really big change for me, because I’m used to spending a bit mindlessly.  So first step to being on track with my budgeted envelopes is to plan.  This week of course contains New Year’s Eve, and Marc and I were already planning to have a little date at home so we’ll make that fun and save the $ of going out.

Monday- Hamburger hot dish (I actually made a double batch of this to bring to a new mom, it’s really easy and travels well)

Tuesday- BBQ porkchops…this is the easiest recipe ever, you just put still frozen boneless chops in the crock pot, squirt bbq sauce over them and cook on low for 3-4 hours.  It’s a good way to use up those bottles of sauce that sit in the fridge.

Wednesday- Baked tilapia

Thursday- Pork fried rice (using leftover pork from Tuesday)

Friday- Creamy chicken soft tacos

Saturday- We are having our “at home date” so I’m picking up Bobby Chez crabcakes and making filet mignons, yum!

Sunday- Pizza

My hubs & I were just talking about doing this…but starting on New Years and more for our waistlines than budget. Do the two of you sit down and figure it out or do you just plan it? That’s our biggest struggle, who plans it vs who winds up cooking it.

I am the one doing all of the cooking, and all of the shopping, so I’m the one who plans it. Husband doesn’t really have much say, actually! ;) You should give it a try, for whatever reasons (I used to plan it more for Weight Watchers than for the budget, now it’s reversed) it does help make mealtimes go more smoothly.

I’m going to jump on this bandwagon. With no work in my near future, I need to buckle down on the spending. Also I think it’ll help me to keep focused instead of being unable to make a decision the day of for dinner or the hour before. Thanks for posting the recipes too.

Yeah, making a decision the day of always lands me in trouble because life gets in the way and then I fall back on going out to eat. Glad I could inspire you to get on the bandwagon T! :)
