My anniversary, The Hunger Games, and laryngitis

That pretty much sums up my past week or so.  After Valentine’s Day comes my wedding anniversary, and this year we were celebrating it a week late, due to the babysitters’ (my parents) request.  But Marc was actually on the ball this year (first time ever, I have to say) and gave me a real anniversary gift, and on time too:

A Kindle Fire!

Yay!  I’ve been wishing for an e-reader of some kind ever since the baby was born, but haven’t gotten around to researching them/actually biting the bullet and buying one.  Once we heard of the Kindle Fire, Marc and I thought it sounded like a great deal.  And it is.  It’s $199, which is a lot more than the run of the mill Kindle, but it has all of the web capabilities you could want as well.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not an iPad (there’s so many apps I wish the Fire could have, but whatever), but it’s a fraction of the cost.

So what was my first book download?  Why, The Hunger Games, as I’m sure the title gave away.  EVERYONE has recommended I read The Hunger Games.  EVERYONE.  I don’t even have to get into the premise here, as I’m sure you’ve heard it already.  I have mentioned before that I am a big dystopia fan, so I knew it would most likely be up my alley, I was just put off by the fact that it’s a young adult book.

First, I’ll say it’s very fast paced.  So action packed that I couldn’t put it down.  Which is saying something for me, because sleep usually wins out over reading, these days.  And yes, I liked it.  The world is very interesting, it has a lot of Brave New World and 1984 to it.  The only thing I can complain about is the young adult love triangle.  But I guess people like that sort of thing.  Just not me.  Oh, and I felt like it ended in a way that was perfectly acceptable to me.  I’m sure I will read the next two books, but I didn’t finish the first and feel like plunking down $7.99 for the next one.

Now for the laryngitis.  I don’t know what the heck is going on.  But Sunday I started getting a really scratchy voice, and by yesterday morning my voice was gone.  Like, totally gone!  No real symptoms, just a mysteriously vanished voice.  Last night I did have an overall crappy feeling, but nothing tell-tale, like cough or fever.  Today it is the same, but my face hurts (insert joke here).  So now I’m taking an antibiotic and hoping it clears up quickly.  Because while my husband might appreciate a lot less of my voice around here, it is nearly impossible to communicate with Rayna.  I have to knock on something to get her attention, and then she doesn’t care to pay attention to my whispering.  And the poor baby is just confused. ;)

A. I’m pretty sure I was the first to recommend the Hunger Games to you. Just saying. I feel like it was over a Melting Pot dinner.

And I have the other two books if you want to borrow them!

You were definitely the first person to recommend Hunger Games to me. Before last summer, because I have a vivid memory of looking for it in the bookstore at the beach, seeing it under “Young Adult” and feeling a little bit sorry for you that you recommended a kids’ book and didn’t know it. LOL!!! ;)
